about

I wrote the song I LIKE “back in the day” and it has been a fan favorite to hear, and a band favorite to play for many years. The first recording came out in 1997 on my ALIVE AT SARAH STREET record, and it featured a killer band, including Tim Carbone on violin, John Skehan on mandolin, and Carey Harmon on vocals and percussion. Those three guys would go on to form Railroad Earth, and you can hear a lot of that RRE “Jam-Grass” sound in that live recording. Fast forward to January 21, 2020 when I gathered up a few of my favorite North Jersey musical all-stars in Damian Calcagne's PineBox studio to start work on a new project. We decided that it was about time we did a studio version of the tune, with the more swampy, Little Feat inspired feel that we'd been playing live. Well, we got the tune done, and then COVID hit…and a new record was reduced to a new SINGLE! Here it is…streaming on all platforms Friday, April 28, 2023…I hope YOU LIKE! -Bobby

I Like (PineBox Studio Version) featuring Elliott Peck on vocals.
Music and Lyrics by Bobby Syvarth.
Produced and Engineered by Damian Calcagne at The PineBox, Boonton, NJ. USA

2022 saw Damian Calcagne with 5 Grammy considerations for his Hammond B3 playing as well as engineering at his NJ based studio, The PineBox.
Damian and the PineBox have hosted projects for Grateful Dead founding member Phil Lesh, Andy Falco, Blake Chrisitiana (Yarn), Nadine LaFond, Dave Schools, Midnight North, Clare Maloney, Todd Sheaffer (Railroad Earth), Mari Byrd as well as Damian’s own projects DCB and Honey Straws.
Damian’s earlier project, Swampadelica saw his song Mighty High rise to #2 on the Billboard Magazine charts, with several years of international airplay on MTV.

Featuring Elliott Peck on Vocals.
As one of the most sought-after vocalists on the West Coast, Elliott Peck has made a name for herself lending harmonies to everyone from Phil Lesh and Bob Weir to Jackie Greene and Reid Genauer. As a member of the band Midnight North, she’s appeared on bills with the likes of Bonnie Raitt and The Mother Hips and slayed festivals from Lockn’ to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. We were lucky to have her on the East Coast in the PineBox to duet on this tune!

Bassist Johnny Grubb joined Railroad Earth in 2003 and spent 7 years with the group. By 2010 he had grown into one of the more visible members of the band. He appears on 2004’s The Good Life, 2006’s Elko and 2008’s Amen’s Corner.  From there Johnny went on to join the Emmitt-Nershi Band, and various other freelance projects, while spending more time at home raising his family.

Drummer Billy Mutchler has been a member of The Samples since 2003, plays in the NJ based Grateful Dead tribute band This Old Engine and is a well known open handed lefty on the New Jersey club scene. The groove on the PineBox version is fondly referred to by the band as “The Billy Way!”
